Student Intern Application
*for New Mexico Student Teachers
Thank you for your interest in participating as a student intern for La Cosecha 2011 Conference.
This year's conference theme is “Reforzando puentes entre idiomas: Strengthening bridges between our languages and cultures”. The conference will focus on all essential components of dual language programs with a special emphasis on the importance of that specific cognitive strength that exists in the bilingual/multilingual student. Its definition, assessment and celebration
If selected as a student intern, you will have the opportunity to attend high quality sessions presented by practitioners and academicians in the area of dual language education. You will be able to network with teachers and administrators from the region who are planning and implementing Dual Language programs, and you will be part of the work that goes into planning and putting on the conference.
The 16th Annual La Cosecha Dual Language Conference will take place from November 16-19, 2011 at the Albuquerque Convention Center in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
Application Deadline:
The deadline for the Student Intern Application for La Cosecha 2011 is September 23, 2011. Submissions must be received by 5:00 p.m. MST on September 23, 2011. Late submissions will be considered on a space-available basis.
Requirements:
- Attend a student intern training session, Saturday, November 12, 2011, 9:00am - 12:00noon, Site: Albuquerque Convention Center
- Active participation in carrying out La Cosecha 2011
- Must be a pre-service teacher intern or other student enrolled in an university (New Mexico institutions have priority)
- Not currently employed by a school or school district
- Supporter of dual language education
- Commitment to working with ELL’s and NES Students in a Dual Language Classroom
- Letter of recommendation from school site principal and/or university supervisor on institution’s letterhead
- Ability to meet work requirements as explained in the Student Intern Scholarship Application

As a student intern you will receive the following:
- The opportunity to attend high-quality workshops led by classroom teachers, community based informal educators, university professors, educational professionals, and other members of the education community
- Ability to network with teachers and administrators who are planning and implementing dual language programs
- Full registration to the conference includes meals included with registration and dance celebration Participation covers conference registration. All other costs (travel, hotel, etc.) are at student’s expense
- The opportunity to meet/network with dual language administrators from around the state of New Mexico
Student Intern Commitment to La Cosecha Conference:
In order to be considered, as a student intern, you must be able to fulfill the following:
- A pre-conference orientation in Albuquerque which will take place tentatively, Saturday, November 12, 2011 at the Albuquerque Convention Center. During this time you will receive training for the responsibilities expected of you during the conference. We will also be stuffing the conference tote bags that will be distributed to conference participants. Students outside of Santa Fe and Albuquerque may have other opportunities to receive this important orientation.
- A maximum of 10 full hours of volunteer work during the conference.
